At The Rum Runner in Sea Bright, try the chicken pot pie, made from diced chicken, peas, carrots and potatoes wrapped in puff pastry ($18.95). The dish is a staple here and at The Rum Runner's sister restaurants, McLoone's Pier House in Long Branch and CJ McLoone's Pub & Grill in Tinton Falls, which means more chances to tuck into this cozy dish.

Have you been to The Rum Runner since the rebuild? It took a few years post-Sandy for Tim McLoone to get The Rum Runner on Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright built. It's been open now for about a year-and-a-half, but New Year's Eve was the first time I was able to get there...and it is spectacular.

Champagne flutes in hand, dozens of invited guests explored the multi-tiered structure, which features soaring interior spaces and views of the river from every inch of its length. "I call this the aquarium," one guest said, as he led friends through a glass door into a second-story dining area and bar. The space, at the south end of the building, terminates in a window-filled cupola and is enclosed by glass doors that, in nice weather, will be open to the river and sea breezes, said architect Jay Anderson, of the Rumson firm Anderson Campanella.

Gary U.S. Bonds is one of the giants of rock 'n' roll. Yet, in one of the quirks of music history, it took him 20 years to finally play Asbury Park. He did so in the early '80s, long after his hits "New Orleans" and "Quarter to Three" kept rock alive in the early '60s.

Tim McLoone has created a restaurant empire that all started with his love of music. After graduating from Harvard University, McLoone decided to open his first restaurant, McLoone's Rum Runner in Sea Bright, NJ in 1987. He not only did this to become a restaurateur, but also to establish a place for him and his musician friends to perform. "I played in lots of bands wandering from place to place trying to get jobs, and I decided that I wanted to have one place to call my own, and my band can play there." McLoone said.

McLoone's Rum Runner, a Sea Bright restaurant damaged beyond repair by superstorm Sandy, was approved for a $3 million loan earlier this month, clearing the way for it to rebuild and open in time for the summer. The summer of 2015, that is. "Now we almost start the process over," owner Tim McLoone said, thinking about approvals from the state and the borough, the demolition and the construction that will leave the new restaurant eight to 10 feet higher than the old one.

An organization that brings much joy and music to thousands of people each year can trace its roots to the loneliness of a young boy. "When I was little, my brother was really ill. He had polio. We lived on the grounds of the veteran's hospital in East Orange and, with my only sibling ill for a good period of that time, I spent a lot of time alone," said Tim McLoone, founder of Holiday Express, an organization that will have brought 64 performances, gifts and food this season to about 20,000 disadvantaged people by Christmas.

Bobby Rydell was one of the early "teen idol" purveyors of the rock and roll sound. From his beginnings in the 1950s appearing on shows such as Paul Whiteman's TV Teen Club, to being called one of the "most sought-after nightclub and concert acts in America" by Kim Summers, Philadelphia-born Bobby Rydell has continued to wow fans all over the world during his amazing 63-year career span. Rydell will be making a rare, Jersey Shore appearance at McLoone's Supper Club on Nov. 29 to share the music and the stories of his career and personal life with his biggest fans and newest inquisitors.

Twenty years ago, Tim McLoone held his first rehearsal with what would become Holiday Express, his rock 'n' soul band that has brought seasonal music, gifts and cheer to hundreds of people every year since. The band's first show, over Thanksgiving weekend in 1993, was in Connecticut at a resource center for, as McLoone put it, "children with children," or extremely young, at-risk parents. It was a depressing place, and it offered but a foretaste of what the musicians would encounter over the next 20 years.

At the event Arts Take Action: Sandy One Year Later, held at NJPAC on the anniversary of the superstorm, [Star-Ledger reporter Brian Donohue's] documentary with The Star-Ledger, Splinters & Sand, brought the owner of the shore's McLoone's Restaurants to tears. "I think Tim McLoone's reaction was a reaction a lot of people had, which was when they watched this documentary, they cried for the first time since the storm," said Donohue. "People get their emotions bottled up. You know, 'Suck it up and let's get through this. I'm not going to cry because there's someone worse off next to me.'"

Novelist Morrow Wilson has spent more than a year doing interviews of all kinds print, Internet and radio. All from the comfort of his own home. "Gone are the days when a book tour involves travel," reports the novelist. "Now you get on the telephone or the Internet." But in the case of Tim McLoone, Morrow Wilson is making an exception - taking the long commute from his New York City apartment in the Yorkville Towers to join Tim McLoone and his live audience in the far reaches of the Jersey Shore. The reason? Tim McLoone.

This ain't no dinky county park hotdog stand. McLoone's Boathouse, a 12,000-square foot restaurant adjacent to Essex County's miniGolf Safari, is the kind of place where you'll want to go for Mother's Day brunch, have drinks with your office mates, take your family for dinner on Sunday nights... and possibly plan to have your daughter's wedding.

Tim McLoone is sitting in his favorite office, a booth at McLoone's Pier House on the boardwalk at Pier Village in Long Branch. At this hour, it's right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the lunch crowd who've come to enjoy not only the great food, but also the gorgeous view of the ocean this glass-enclosed beachfront restaurant provides. That view is one of the reasons McLoone, often called a Renaissance man for his visionary thinking, was the first to sign on the dotted line when the developers of Pier Village came to call.

Tim McLoone could best be described as a modern-day Renaissance Man. Schooled at Harvard and accomplished in music, athletics and business, he yearned to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need. In 1993, with the help of his musician friends, he founded Holiday Express, a volunteer, nonprofit and non-sectarian organization dedicated to bringing music, food, gifts and genuine friendship to the physically and mentally disabled, the homeless, those living with AIDS, and others in need during the holiday season.

Red found some crabby competition from McLoone's Restaurants and Bobby Chez. Conroy praised the "really moist, just-cooked" nature of McLoone's crabcake, while Michele McBride, morning host at Brookdale Public Radio 90.5 FM, the Night, said that for consistency, McLoone's was her favorite.

The voice of New Jersey? Gov. Jon S. Corzine? Sinatra? Springsteen? Tony Soprano? Try Tim McLoone. You can hear his dulcet tones in venues as cavernous as the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford and as cozy as a bar at the Jersey Shore. Or outdoors at a band shell at the beach or on the grass at Monmouth Park, between horse races.
